This is a wheel throwing class for beginner potters with little to no experience. We will learn the basics of wheel throwing, trimming and glazing. You can expect to leave the class with at least 2-4 completed items. The amount of production is highly dependent on open studio attendance.

Included:

  • access to 3 clay bodies
  • Open Studio hours (Sundays 1-4)
  • Underglaze, assorted brush on glazes and a clear dipping glaze.
  • Tools available for use.  (**All outside tools must be clearly labeled).

Class Schedule:

  • 6:30-6:50: Demonstration
  • 6:50-9:10: Guided and Independent practice. Additional demos by request. I will circulate providing one-on-one attention on the technicality of your wheel thrown or hand built projects.
  • 9:10-9:30: Clean up and closing meeting

Curriculum:

  • WEEK 1: Introduction to the basics of wheel throwing. We will practice non-attachment and try to keep one piece. Aim to throw a cylinder to use for a mug. 
  • WEEK 2: Introduction to trimming and attaching a handle. Optional: underglaze(Aim to bisque fire your first item)
  • WEEK 3: Introduction to glazing. More wheel throwing practice. (Aim to glaze fire your first item).
  • WEEK 4: Wheel throwing vases OR pitchers.
  • WEEK 5: surface techniques adding handles and details to your vases.
  • WEEK 6: Introduction to throwing a set of bowls.
  • WEEK 7: Detailed glazing techniques, option to add gold luster (if you would like to try gold luster you will need to purchase your own luster)

Extra fees:

  • Firing is .07 per cubic inch. **Firing fees are accepted via cash, Venmo or Zelle.
  • Additional clay beyond 25 lbs.
  • Respirator and Gold Luster if you would like to add gold to your work.

What To Bring

  • Clothes that can get dirty
  • An apron and a hand towel that you will bring home with you at the end of each class.

 

Make Ups & Cancellation

Students may attend double Open Studio hours if class is missed. One makeup class allotted per session. Full refunds are offered if cancellation happens up to 2 days before a class starts. No refunds less than 48 hours before the class begins. It is free to transfer credits to another class or service as long as there is room available. A substitute attendee may be named by the booking party at any time
